Register your interest in this 20 Credit, Masters Level 7, by the 31st July 2019

This standalone module aims to equip social workers in all fields, and professionals within related health and social care services, with an in-depth critical awareness of contemporary attachment theory and research. It is designed to inform their practice with vulnerable groups across the lifespan particularly when thinking about longer-term intervention work and trauma-informed approaches. This module will also consider developments within neuroscience, developmental trauma and related theories of attachment such as mentalisation

This NEW training is for all managers of staff (including team leaders and supervisors).

We have a new Attendance Management Policy going live from 1 April 2020 and all managers will need to book a place on this training.

This training will develop and increase your confidence in how to effectively manage sickness under the NEW Attendance Management Policy.

In addition to this, you will also need to complete the Attendance Management elearning prior to attending the face to face session.

This half day course is run twice a year and will raise your awareness about sex work. Delegates will learn about the law, the national and local landscape and consider the diversity of experience of sex workers. Delegates will additionally consider the links between sex work and violence and abuse. The course will provide an overview of the work undertaken in the city, and how to refer to specialist services.

Code: BH/20/0073 Staying Active to help prevent Falls

The course is suitable for those interested in learning about how being active and doing strength and balance exercises can benefit adults/older adults. It is aimed at those working with older adults with a view to raising awareness about falls and looking at how physical activity has a role in prevention. The course could be relevant to colleagues in a range of settings; leisure facilities, care settings, senior housing settings and community/voluntary groups.


The session will include:

  • Information on the Falls Awareness/Prevention agenda in Brighton & Hove
  • Information on the current Chief Medical Officer guidelines around physical activity
  • The value of muscle strengthening and balance work in relation to falls prevention
  • A practical session consisting of Strength and Balance exercises designed to reduce the risk of falls (featuring Otago-based exercises)
  • Information on opportunities for older people to be physically active locally
  • Sharing of knowledge around working with older people
  • Sharing of resources

As staff working in local government this is your chance to develop your understanding of the political nature of local government and increase your understanding of the role and aims of elected councillors; how they work, who they are, what their relationship is to the running of the Council and delivery of services.

The course is your chance to ask questions, explore issues and gain a better understanding of the relationships with and between councillors and officers. It’s an open door to explore what you want to know.
