Code: BH/19/0422 Emergency First Aid - Adult Social Care (EVENT FULL)

The course, for Adult Social Care Staff, enables first aiders to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill. It includes both theory and practical sessions and is designed to boost confidence. There is no final exam however delegates are assessed throughout the course and certificates, valid for three years, are issued to those who have reached the required standard.

Each delegate will be provided with a first aid manual.

Confidence to facilitate is a key skill as a manager. Facilitation can underpin many other managerial skills, and provide managers with a range of approaches & analytical tools that can assist meetings and facilitated discussions, including problem solving.

This course is aimed to provide you with an introduction to facilitation skills.  This is not a knowledge based programme, but an interactive, participative & experiential approach.  The course is intended to challenge your thinking about facilitation, & provide you with an opportunity to practice the skills of a facilitator.  Facilitation Skills is a highly interactive 2 day course that will help you to design and manage processes that will ensure successful outcomes and to gain the commitment of all those involved.

 

The course is a mix of input, individual & group activities, with access to online resources & research.

Code: BH/19/0591 Safer People Handling Risk Assessor Refresher (EVENT FULL)

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 require employers to make suitable and sufficient assessments of all manual handling operations and to take appropriate steps to reduce the risk of injury to the lowest level reasonably practicable. This course will provide assessors with an annual update on the information and skills to undertake assessments of manual handling needs. This course is aimed at staff who have completed the Safer People Handling Risk Assessor refresher course or the full course ('safer people handling risk assessor') within the last 12 months.

Participants will receive an attendance certificate to show that they have received training under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.

Learning on the module supports social work practitioners in developing the knowledge, skills and values to plan enable and assess the learning of a social work student. Learning on the module covers the requirements of Stage 2 of the College of Social Work’s Practice Educator Professional Standards (PEPS).

The module is delivered over 5 days using a range of methods including presentations, structured discussions and exercises designed to draw on participants practice and personal experience.

Small groups of students will be encouraged to share their perspectives, critique the concepts which are presented to them and apply learning to their own specialist social work context.

Whilst on the module you must have a Stage 2 qualified practice educator allocated to support you and assess your practice (via Direct Observations) in meeting your responsibilities towards your allocated student. Learning on the module reviews Stage 1 learning and introduces the additional requirements for Stage 2 of the Practice Educator Professional Standards (PEPS)

There are two elements to the assessment of this module. These are:
Part 1: a portfolio of Practice Evidence
Part 2: A 3000 word Reflective analysis of Practice and development as a Practice Educator

This module can be taken as part of a PGCert, PGDip or as a stand alone module. Students who complete this module + the Enabling Learning (Stage 1) module will be able to gain the PGCert in Practice Education. See attached document for further information.

This module is the first level of continuing professional development (post-qualification) for social workers. The focus is on consolidating participants’ knowledge and skills in communicating with children, acquired during their professional qualifying programmes.

The module is delivered in a workshop format (8 x 3 hour monthly sessions) with an explicit emphasis on pedagogical approaches that encourage learning from experience.

The Talking and Listening to Children research project’s web-based digital resources provides the framework for the module, with practitioners equipped with a ‘Kitbag’ for use in their interactions with young children and their families.

This module enables you to meet the requirements of the relevant Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) domains and the Knowledge and Skills Statements.

You will have access to the University’s Library and will benefit from peer support throughout the programme
