Code: BH/21/0790 Advanced Behaviour Change (4 Day Course)

A four half-day practice focused self-reflective course providing the learner with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge, skills and confidence to engage in brief interventions to facilitate behaviour change with people whatever their readiness to change.

Inbetween the sessions three and four, participants will be asked to record a short ‘behaviour change’ (via a voice recording app or zoom/Teams) intervention to then share in an appropriate format  with the aim to gain constructive feedback to affirm and enhance practice so there is an emphasis on analysis of practice.

Participants will develop skills in motivational interviewing, specifically differentiating change talk from commitment language, and learning how to elicit and shape the two to strengthen the outcome of interventions.

By the end of the course participants will have enhanced a toolkit of strategies they can apply when working with individuals to facilitate behaviour change over a short or longer term basis, including more complex cases and in dealing with resistance.

PLEASE NOTE:
Designed for practitioners who understand the fundamental elements of facilitating behaviour change and have practiced it over time and now seek more advanced training in it. We would encourage participants who have at least 2 years’ experience of working one-to-one with individuals to facilitate change to attend.

The course aims to build on the learning from the RSPH Supporting Behaviour Change course which we would recommend should have been attended prior to this course.  We will work to enhance our skills to facilitate behaviour change relating to health and wellbeing e.g. in the community and voluntary sector; social care, in community pharmacies, in sport and leisure, in mental health, in the community and voluntary sector; those working in education, youth work, criminal justice and the housing sector.

On requesting a place you will be sent a Behaviour Change questionnaire which you should fill in and return to the trainer before the course start date.

Code: BH/21/0719 Emergency First Aid at Work - for council employees and schools ONLY (EVENT FULL)

Who is this course for?

This training is for those people employed by Brighton and Hove City Council or Brighton and Hove Schools who have a specific responsibility at work, to provide basic first aid to people in a range of first aid situations.

If however, you are taking a lead in first aid in your workplace, the three day First Aid at Work course may be more appropriate for you.

Please note: there are specific courses for staff who that work in Adult Social Care or Children Services.

What is the purpose of this course?

The course aims to enable delegates to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed, to deal with a range of first aid situations and/or take on the role of first aider in the workplace.

How are delegates assessed?

There are four practical assessments that delegates will have to complete throughout the course and these will be observed by the trainer. During the course the trainer will also carry out on-going assessment to assess the delegates’ knowledge, skills and understanding related to the assessment criteria.  As there is an element of physical activity on this course suitable footwear and clothing should be worn. There is also a theory assessment/multiple choice paper at the end of the course to assess competence and gain certification.

The delegate will need to demonstrate, without assistance from a third party, practical tasks such as CPR with the casualty on the floor to simulate a real-life situation. If the delegate is unable to carry out this practical assessment, for example, because they cannot kneel, then they will not pass the course and will not gain the qualification.  In exceptional circumstances, delegates who are not able to kneel may be able to carry out the task from a standing position, and this is acceptable.

Re-certification

This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years and will be issued to those who have met the required standard. The learner needs to re-take the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified by attending a full day Emergency First Aid at Work course.

IMPORTANT: The First Aid Training Programme has been amended due to the Covid-19 outbreak and infection prevention control measures and special instructions for attending this course are attached.  Please ensure these are read and understood before applying and attending the course. Delegates can also request copies of the risk assessments that cover this training course.

Please note: Whilst the course is delivered in a covid secure way, please consider with your manager whether it is essential for you to attend as the delegates will be a mix of staff from different workplaces.
