Code: BH/17/843 Working with People affected by Prescription and Over the Counter (OTC) Medicine Abuse and Dependency

The abuse of, and dependence on, prescription and Over the Counter (OTC) medicines presents a growing problem both in our city and around the country.

Whether dependency has arisen over time following initial legitimate prescribing or the abuse of the medicine is intentional and non-medical to exploit its side effects, professionals might find themselves at a loss as regards to how best identify and support those affected by these issues.

This course will help you better understand the needs of prescription/OTC medicines users, and explore ways of supporting them more effectively.

We suggest you complete the two day Drug & Alcohol Basic Awareness course before attending any of the more specialised full day courses such as this one. This is to equip you with more general knowledge and skills in preparation for learning about the more in depth topics. Don’t hesitate to contact the Health Promotion Team on 01273 731900 if you would like to discuss this further.

Code: BH/17/956 WRAP ( Workshop to Raise Awareness of Prevent) and Far Right Aware - Adult Social Care

Prevent is one of the four strands of CONTEST, the Government’s Counter Terrorism Strategy.  The ‘Prevent’ Strategy is to reduce the threat to the UK from terrorism and aims ‘to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism’.  Prevent addresses all forms of terrorism.

The WRAP - ‘Workshop To Raise Awareness Of Prevent’ - training provides an introduction to ‘Prevent’ aimed at objective two of the Prevent strategy - supporting vulnerable people.  It has been developed by the Home Office to raise awareness of and explain Prevent within the wider safeguarding context.  The workshop will develop your knowledge of support available and skills to recognise when someone may be becoming involved in or supporting terrorism, to help them make a decision not to carry on that path, before any crime is committed.

The Far Right Aware section in the workshop is designed to augment existing WRAP training on extremism issues, focusing on how they relate to the extreme right.  It will enable professionals in their role to challenge extremist and terrorist ideology.

This training is aimed at front line staff in adult assessment services and managers and deputy managers of adult social care provider services.
