Complaints are a valuable source of information telling us what people in general think about our services. Complaints that are responded to in a meaningful way can improve the way services are viewed. This short course will help managers produce effective responses and will demonstrate how to identify and implement service improvements.

These short sessions, lasting approx. 1.5 hours each, will again be run by various members of the FCL Directorate Management Team. They are intended to provide an opportunity for everyone to come together in small informal groups.

In the sessions we plan to consider our staff survey results and think about our ‘public value proposition’ (more on this in the session!) Each session will open with a showing of the short Annual Report video and will conclude with an opportunity for Questions & Answers.

Code: BH/19/0264 First Aid at Work 2 Day Recertification (very important: please see eligibility information within course details before requesting a place)

This 2 day recertification course is specifically for qualified First Aiders who currently hold a current ‘in date’ 3 year First Aid at Work Certificate nearing expiry who need to renew their qualification for a further 3 years and refresh their knowledge and skills.

This is not the 12 month annual refresher event, please ensure you are accessing the correct event.

Eligibility – You can only attend this course if -

You are a qualified First Aider and have previously attended the 3 day First Aid at Work Course and
Your current certificate will still be in date at the time of the course BUT is due to expire in following 6 months or has not expired by more than 30 days.

You can’t attend this course if -

If you currently hold an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, you cannot top this up to a full First Aid at Work certificate by undertaking this course.

It is strongly recommended that you book your space on this course between 3 and 6 months prior to your First Aid at Work Certificate expiring.

NB: Suitable clothing taking some physical activity into account should be worn.

This course is designed to provide candidates with the necessary knowledge, skills and confidence to conduct risk assessments in line with legislation and council policy
 
The training will consist of practical and theoretical exercises, which will assist candidates to identify work related hazards, assess the level of risk and implement practical control measures

Examples of what makes a suitable and sufficient risk assessment will be discussed and good practice tips and guidance will be provided

Code: BH/19/0705 Working with Fathers (for ASYEs/Newly Qualified Social Workers)

This is a session provided by the Father's Steering Group for ASYEs (newly qualified social workers).

This one day course will explore concepts of masculinity, why fathers can be challenging to engage and the underlying reasons for the use of anger, aggression and non-engagement which some father present with.  It will give attendees the opportunity to develop practical skills and strategies to build positive working relationships with fathers, understand the duties and responsibilities Social Workers have regarding working with fathers, as well as discussing the challenges around doing this.
