Register your interest in this 40 Credit, Masters Level 7 Course by the 28th June 2019. 

This module takes a critical approach to the contested nature and origins of mental health, mental illness and mental disorder, with an emphasis on social perspectives. Through the examination of a range of models of mental disorder and interventions, students are encouraged to reflect on the nature of diagnosis and treatment. In particular, they will be supported to gain a greater understanding of the implications of mental disorders and treatments for service users, families and carers.

5000 word essay which explores different perspectives on, and interventions for, a particular form of mental disorder, and considers the relevance of this knowledge for practice.

Code: BH/19/0590 First Aid at Work (3 day) - for council employees and schools ONLY

This course is for those that will be acting as lead first aiders and will provide candidates with a recognised first aid at work qualification.

Upon completion of the course, First Aiders will be able to take control and provide assistance in an emergency situation at their workplace Candidates will be able to respond to an accident or illness promptly, effectively and safely.

Topics covered include: resuscitation and CPR, dealing with wounds, bleeding, burns, scalds, heart conditions and minor injuries.

Attendees will undertake a practical and written assessment on the final day of the course. On successful completion, you will be a recognised First Aider for 3 years; you are not required to attend the one day emergency first aid training as well.

NB: Suitable clothing taking some physical activity into account should be worn.

This course covers the essential elements of food safety to enable you to safely prepare and handle food and to support people with their nutrition and hydration needs.

Course attendees will be given a certificate of attendance. There is a multiple choice assessment at the end of the course which will be marked and given to participants to discuss with their manager upon return to work. The Workforce Development Team will contact the managers of participants who do not pass the assessment.

Code: BH/19/1306 Practical Foundation Course in Medicines Administration (Children's Services)

This interactive workshop is for those working in children’s services, including early years and childcare, schools, CVS practitioners, volunteers, carers and support staff. This course is particularly relevant for children's disability residential staff, Barnardos Link Plus carers and nursery practitioners. 

It is a practical course, teaching how to administer medicines (in original packs) in a systematic way to reduce the chance of errors. It covers the care certificate, CQC and OFSTED requirements for medication training.

This is an all day course which has an in-depth module on record keeping and includes a competence test (simulated medicines rounds) with a follow-on assessment if learners fail this.

Delegates receive a comprehensive workbook with a theory test that can be completed with their manager. Model answers are available on the 'Assessing Staff Competence to Administer Medicines' workshop.

This one day course is designed to increase staff awareness of the possible injuries to themselves and to enable them to carry out transfer operations safely. The course includes informal discussions and practice in transfer techniques.
Numbers on the course are strictly limited to allow time for all participants to practice the various transfer techniques and use of the transfer aids.

Participants will receive an attendance certificate to show that they have received training under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
