Code: BH/17/773 Care Act and Organisational Risk

This course considers the requirements of the Care Act and other statutory duties and the role of managers and senior staff in developing and leading good practice in making decisions and complying with the statutory duties. The training will be informed by recent case law and work of the Local Government Ombudsmen. You will have the opportunity to reflect on current practice in Brighton & Hove City Council and identify areas to develop practice and processes.

You are invited to reflect on the challenges you face in practice prior to attending the course. If you would like to raise these in confidence with Tim Wilson or Richard Cattell we will, subject to your agreement request that these issues are considered on the course.

This course covers the essential elements of food safety to enable you to safely prepare and handle food and to support people with their nutrition and hydration needs.

Course attendees will be given a certificate of attendance. There is a multiple choice assessment at the end of the course which will be marked and given to participants to discuss with their manager upon return to work. The Workforce Development Team will contact the managers of participants who do not pass the assessment.

Code: BH/17/162 LSCB - The Impact of Parental Substance Misuse

Some of the serious effects of parental substance misuse for children include abuse, neglect, emotional problems, educational difficulties, being young carers of parents or siblings, and a potential to later use drugs or alcohol themselves.

This course is included within the training programme as it clearly highlights these issues facing children and young people who live within the households where substance misuse is an issue. You will learn about what agency services are available to support the whole family, thus reducing or removing the potential risk/s of abuse.

This training is provided by the Local Children's Safeguarding Board (LSCB) in partnership with Pavilions.

This course is aimed at staff involved in the manual handling of adults, including the use of hoists and other support equipment, who have completed the Safer People Handling Basic Awareness training course or a Safer People Handling refresher course within the last 12 months. Important Eligibility Applies - if you last completed training outside of the last 12 month period (30 days beyond this, absolute maximum is acceptable) or you have not completed training in this area before please do not book onto this refresher event, you must complete the bascic awareness event.

It is a National/local directive that staff refresh and update their knowledge and skills regularly. This half-day course will update staff on the possible injuries to themselves and enable them to carry out transfer operations safely.

This course is aimed at social care professionals who are working with people experiencing mental health distress. The course will improve your confidence about how to respond if you know or believe that the person is planning suicide.
