This three day course will train professionals to facilitate Family Foundations, an evidence based 7 session ante and postnatal team parenting course for expectant couples. The learning is a mix of presentations large and small group discussion, the chance to practice facilitation of the course, video content and review of all the learning materials for parents.

Family Foundations is a seven-session pre and post-natal programme for couples expecting their first baby together.   Four sessions delivered before the birth and three post birth in small friendly groups of 6 - 10 people.  Family Foundations facilitators describe the programme as rewarding to deliver.

Family Foundations helps expectant parents work as a team, through pregnancy and into the first months of their baby’s life. It covers: managing the transition to parenthood, reducing parental conflict, preparing the couple for parenthood and child-centred parenting, as opposed to preparation for the birth.

Programme curriculum synopsis:
·         Breathing/relaxation
·         Techniques to strengthen the couple relationship and building a strong family unit.
·         Understanding emotions - yours, your partners and the baby’s
·         Managing stress and handling difficult situations
·         Supporting the other parent
·         Working as a team and division of labour.

The programme is intentionally father-inclusive, with training delivered by the Fatherhood Institute.  Male-female co-delivery is an important element of the programme.  We are particularly looking to identify male co-facilitators for this course.
