Code: BH/20/1429 Fair and Inclusive Mandatory Virtual Staff Briefing

The council is committed to being a fair and inclusive employer and service provider to the city. This means all staff must understand their role in understanding diversity within the workplace and community, and how they embed equality and inclusion in everything they do.

The council has been working to deliver and continually develop our Fair and Inclusive Action Plan as our response to inequality and in particular racial inequality and disability discrimination.

We had planned to deliver this session in venues earlier in the year but this has been delayed by Covid-19.

We are now delivering this 90 minute mandatory briefing on Microsoft Teams. It is for all council employees and all staff must attend so that they are aware of:

  • Our Fair & Inclusive Action Plan & its background & the four key workstreams
  • Our anti-racism pledge
  • Concepts frequently used when discussing race
  • Our responsibilities and actions we can take

This session is being delivered by Ododo Dafe, Head of Housing Income, Supply & Customer Service

Please note that registration and attendance is being monitored and reported to the Chief Executive and the Executive Leadership Team on a regular basis. Regular reminders will be communicated to services to ensure maximum take up of these briefings.

Code: BH/20/1354 What is Infant Mental Health and How Can We Help? A collaboration between psychology and social work in Brighton & Hove

This  two-hour course for Social Workers and Contact Centre Supervisors comes out of a new collaboration between BrightPIP, a parent-infant psychological therapies charity, and EPAP, the ‘baby hub’ undertaking statutory assessment and safeguarding interventions with parents and babies within Brighton & Hove.

The first hour of the course will explore what is meant by ‘infant mental health’; a phenomenon that is both separate and inextricably linked to parent/carer mental health and the attachment relationship.  With reference to infant development in the context of abuse and neglect, the course highlights signs of security and distress in infants. The second part of the course will focus on psychological interventions with babies and their parents/carers, including what these look like (via videos and case examples) and how practitioners might access them via referral to BrightPIP/EPAP.

You need to watch this video prior to the training. It takes about 45 minutes.
