Code: BH/21/0971 Keeping Yourself Safe in the Sun online (Microsoft Teams)

Learn more about keeping yourself safe in the sun.

  • Why is it important to check my skin?
  • What should I look out for?
  • Who is in the ‘at risk group’?
  • What does a cancerous mole look like?
  • What can I do to protect myself from skin cancer?
Finding skin cancer early makes it much more treatable.

Too much ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or sunbeds is the main cause of skin cancer

By enjoying the sun safely, taking care not to burn and avoiding sunbeds, you can reduce the risk of developing skin cancer.

You don’t have to go to a sunny country to damage your skin, where ever you are enjoy the sun safely and reduce your risk of skin cancer with shade, clothes and sunscreen

When skin cancer is found early it is the mostly easy to treat and poses only a small threat to life. But one type, melanoma, is difficult to treat unless detected early. There are 7,000 cases of melanoma a year and this type accounts for three quarters of skin cancer deaths.

Skin cancer is very common in England, over 2,300 people a year will die from it. It is the most common cancer for 15 to 34 year olds.
