This training is essential for managers to be aware of risk management approach in Brighton & Hove City Council and to be able to apply that in their day to day work. 

Risk Management is a key part of the statutory requirement on the council to demonstrate effective corporate governance. Risk management helps the council avoid costly mistakes, better protect our reputation and contribute to keeping the council safe. 

The course will include:

  • an introduction to risk
  • the various types of risks which affect our ability to achieve the Council’s objectives as outlined in the Corporate Plan
  • our corporate approach to managing risk using the ‘three lines of defence’
  • roles, responsibilities and reporting lines
  • a practical session on how to identify, assess, record and treat risk
  • links to the risk requirements in the Behaviour Framework.

This short course will introduce you to a resilience model against which you will self-assess against your current state of resilience, show you how a stronger base of resilience will help you cope with changes at work and home, and give you a taste of mindfulness exercises that can keep you calm and focused in stressful times.

This course is for all those who take minutes or notes of meetings. This will include those who regularly take minutes for others or those who need to keep accurate records of their own meetings such as managers and leaders.

The course includes:-

  • understanding the purpose of various types of minutes and note taking styles and methods and finding the most appropriate for you
  • how to prepare to take notes and minutes
  • how minute takers work with and support the chair of the meeting
  • setting and distributing agendas and reminders and preparing and distributing minutes and follow up notes
  • avoiding emotional involvement when note taking
  • professional tone and language and preparing notes which will form official records

Code: BH/16/041 Positive Behaviour Support (3 day course)

The positive behaviour courses 1-3 aim to equip staff, parents and carers with the skills and knowledge to support adults with learning disabilities whose behaviour can challenge.  The assessment and intervention workbook involves work between each day and must be completed appropriate to the needs of the individual that has been focused on for a certificate to be awarded. This course contains a theory test on day 3 and presentations to the rest of the group. This is an accredited course and your attendance is required on all 3 days during a 4 week period.

The course should be completed in order (day 1, 2 and 3). If for any reason a participant misses a day then they should attend the next available course to complete the days missed within a 6 month period.

This session will provide an overview of supporting BME victims of domestic and sexual violence and abuse, sexual violence and harmful practices. The course focuses on the additional barriers faced by BME communities, including the percieved challenges to faith, culture and religion. Information will be provided on definitions, background theories, prevalence, risk factors, case studies and behaviour patterns.
