This CPD session delivered by the University of Brighton is to be attended by Deprivation of Liberty (DoLS) Dedicated Best Interest Assessors (BIAs) on an annual basis and those on the BIA Rota on a bi-annual basis to refresh knowledge and skills in order to undertake Best Interest Assessments.
This session will be facilitated by Simon Foster, who has worked both as a Local Authority solicitor and as legal head of MIND. This session will update BIAs on changes to case law, as well as aspects of the law that have changed because of the impact of Covid-19. Simon will also update BIAs about progress on the implementation of LPS.
There will also be an opportunity for individual BIAs to discuss practice legal dilemmas they have encountered and obtain feedback from Simon and their peers.

Recent research nationally around Child Sexual abuse has led to various stuides being undertaken.
Locally a particular piece of research has looked at the issues for young mne and boys in relation to CSA.
This webinar will look at the prevalence of CSA for boys and policy responses, mental health consequences and themes emerging from the experiences of male victims and perceptions around masculinity and professional responses. The session also looks at barriers to disclosure.
This session will to information previously gained in Child Sexual AbuseTraining anyone with an interest in matters that are related to boys and men. It is also useful in terms of thinking about ideas we hold about men and boys in our everyday lives. It is not just for those who work in mental health.

Carbon Literacy provides knowledge and awareness around the impacts greenhouse gas emissions are having on our communities through our everyday activities and gives us the agency and motivation to take decisive Climate Emergency action as individuals, communities and in our roles at Brighton and Hove Council.
You will receive one days’ worth of training (two half days) to include the latest scientific basis for taking action, preparation for some of the impacts we will face and develop skills to build significant greenhouse emission reduction plans. This will include making two key pledges to take action to reduce emissions relating to your specific role.

This 15 credit module is for qualifed social workers, experienced practice educators and assessors who are involved in the teaching, supervising and assessing of trainee social workers.and primarily those who wish to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to enable them to take full responsibility for the teaching and assessing of a student social worker up to and including the student's final social work placement.
In order to apply for this module you must have discussed and agreed with your manager to take responsibility for a Social Work Student on placement.
Practice Education Stage 2 will assume prior knowledge of, and build expertise in, the critical analysis and application of, the following issues:
- building solid foundations for the learning relationship - induction, using networks, learning contracts
- models of supervision, including reflective supervision
- analysing and applying theories of learning
- using research to enhance practice teaching and direct practice
- organising, pacing and managing learning experiences of others
- promoting anti-oppressive practice in practice education
- developing and operating equitable and robust systems of assessment
- teaching and facilitating critical reflection and reflexivity
- teaching and facilitating the effective use of knowledge in social work practice
- working with students in challenging situations
As part of this module you will be observed undertaking different tasks of the practice educator role on at least two separate occasions, including the presentation of video-recorded material to the module student group.

Code: BH/22/0310 Emergency First Aid - Adult Social Care
This course is for Adult Social Care staff and enables first aiders to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill. The objective of the qualification is to benefit delegates by enabling them to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of first aid situations and/or take on the role of first aider in the workplace.
This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide basic first aid to people in a range of first aid situations.
The programme has been amended due to the Covid-19 outbreak and infection prevention control measures and special instructions for attending this course are attached. Please ensure these are read and understood before applying and attending the programme. Delegates can also request a full copy of the risk assessments that cover this training course.
Please note: - this course is open to adult social care staff across the council and across the Independent Voluntary Sector. Whilst the course is delivered in a covid secure way, please consider with your manager whether it is essential for you to attend as the delegates may be a mix of staff from different workplaces.

There are four practical assessments that delegates will have to complete throughout the course, and these will be observed by the trainer. During the course the trainer will also carry out on-going assessment to assess the delegates’ knowledge, skills and understanding related to the assessment criteria. As there is an element of physical activity on this course suitable footwear and clothing should be worn.
There is also a theory assessment/multiple choice paper at the end of the course to assess competence and gain certification.
The delegate will need to demonstrate, without assistance from a third party, practical tasks such as CPR with the casualty on the floor to simulate a real-life situation. If the delegate is unable to carry out this practical assessment, for example, because they cannot kneel, then they will not pass the course and will not gain the qualification. In exceptional circumstances, delegates who are not able to kneel may be able to carry out the task from a standing position, and this is acceptable.
This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years, and will be issued to those who have met the required standard.. The learner needs to re-take the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified by attending a full one day/six hour Emergency First Aid at Work course.
Delegates will be provided with a course manual to keep.

The Level 2 Understanding Health Improvement Online Course is targeted at those involved in setting up health promotion / public health initiatives in the workplace and / or becoming ‘Workplace health champions.’ This course will equip ‘Workplace Health Champions’ with the tools and resources they need to help make themselves and their colleagues healthier.
