Code: BH/22/0250 Emergency First Aid at Work (Children's Services)
This course is suitable for frontline workers in Children’s Services working with young people from puberty age to adult. If you require baby and child specific training, please see the 2 day Paediatric First Aid course details to confirm which course is suitable for your service.
Learners will attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of first aid situations and/or take on the role of first aider in the workplace. It is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide basic first aid to people in a range of first aid situations.
There are four practical assessments, observed by the trainer throughout the course. There is one theory assessment/multiple choice question papers. The pass mark is 11 out of 15.
In addition, the trainer will carry out on-going assessment to assess the learners’ knowledge, skills and understanding related to the assessment criteria.
To assess competence and gain certification, the learner will need to demonstrate, without assistance from a third party, practical tasks such as CPR with the casualty on the floor to simulate a real-life situation. If the learner is unable to carry out this practical assessment, for example because they cannot kneel, then they will not pass the course and will not gain the qualification. In exceptional circumstances, learners who are not able to kneel may be able to carry out the task from a standing position, and this is acceptable.
Each learner is provided with a course manual.
This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years. The learner needs to re-take the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified by attending a full one day/six hour Emergency First Aid at Work course.

Intensive Interaction is an approach to encourage communication with people who maybe difficult to reach or who are withdrawn, in particular people who have severe learning disabilities (SLD), profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and/or autism. The aims of Intensive Interaction are:
- to enjoy the wonder, joy and fulfilment of communication and relationships
- to teach the fundamentals of communication
- to open up a variety of other experiences
- to be with someone in a non-demanding way on their terms, without an agenda or a fixed task to achieve
- to increase happiness
