This event will explore mental health and debt in relation to compulsive behaviours and dependencies.  

Our local colleagues from CGL, Breakeven, Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust and Brighton Housing Trust will share their knowledge about the specialist services they work for, specific compulsive behaviours and dependencies and linking this to money and mental health. The thread of understanding compulsive behaviours and dependencies through the lens of trauma will run throughout.

The programme will include spotlight sessions on:

·        a trauma-informed understanding of compulsive behaviours and addictions

·        drugs and alcohol                                                                                         

·        gambling                                                                                                                   

·        online gaming                                                                                                                

·        compulsive shopping

The aim is to increase our understanding of specific behaviours and dependencies, how they interact with money and mental health and where to refer people locally for support with these issues.

This is a mandatory training if you are a Head Teacher, Head of School, or Executive Head Teacher at any Brighton and Hove school (including Church schools) - On appointment and refreshed every 3 years.

Head teachers must ensure adequate resources are identified, allocated and deployed for the management of health and safety in their school.  Whilst Head teachers can delegate certain safety functions to others, they cannot delegate their responsibility for health and safety. 

This course will provide you with an overview of:

  • Your legal responsibilities
  • An outline of your responsibilities for health and safety
  • Details of how to manage your significant risks proportionately through a ‘safety management system’ (including the need for policies and procedures,  risk assessment; incident reporting, premises management etc)
  • Where to find the support and resources that are available to you

What is IOSH Managing Safely and who is this course for?


This course is accredited by IOSH (The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) and will provide delegates with an opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised, health and safety qualification.

This training is recommended for managers, supervisors and team leaders who wish to gain confidence and a  deeper understanding of their health and safety responsibilities and successful health and safety management. This course will help delegates to lead by good example, to effectively manage the health, safety and wellbeing of their team and embed a positive and safe culture in the workplace. 
 

What does this course cover?

This course covers responsibilites, identifying hazards, assessment and control of risks, incident and accident investigation and measuring performance.

How will the course be delivered and assessed?

This training course will be delivered over 4  days in a COVID secure venue. Session times are 09.30 -16.30 on days 1, 2 & 3 and 09.30 - 12.30 on day 4. Delegates must be able to attend all sessions and undertake a 45 minute knowledge based test consisting of multi-format questions on the final day. Delegates will also be required to complete a skill-based, practical risk assessment carried out in their workplace.

VERY IMPORTANT: It is essential that the attached COVID-19 Risk Assessment Guidance for Training Participants is read and understood by delegates and their managers before attending this training. Delegates can request a copy of the risk assessments covering this course if required.

Please note: Whilst the course is delivered in a covid secure way, please consider with your manager whether it is essential for you to attend, as the delegates will be a mix of staff from different workplaces.

Priority for places is given to BHCC staff and Schools staff but a limited number of places are available to external people.
