Code: BH/22/0663 BHSCP - Trauma Informed Practice a Multi-Agency Approach
Trauma, particularly in early childhood, can have severe impact on a child throughout their life. It can manifest as behavioural issues, and have a severe effect on both their mental and physical health. When they grow older they may can be drawn into violence, criminal activity, and self harm, as well as being more likely to engage in health-harming behaviours. These issues can continue to have effect on the manner in which they interact with others throughout their life, including their own children, and they are more likely to become a victim of abuse, or a potential perpetrator, in their own relationships.
We often refer to these traumatic events Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE). Almost half of the adult population of England have had some form of adversity within their childhood or adolescence. These can include bereavement, neglect, violence, being witness to domestic abuse, sexual assault and substance use by parents and carers.
This training event will raise awareness of the issues relating to working with children and families where there has been some form of trauma. This is a joint enterprise between the Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB), Public Health and partners from Sussex University
