This course will enable participants to understand concepts and develop skills to work effectively with service-users who present with domestic abuse and substance misuse issues. Participants will explore the behaviours which constitute domestic abuse, and the ways in which substances are used in the context of domestic abuse. Domestic abuse risk management and safety planning will be considered within the context of working with service-users affected by both issues. Participants will learn to recognise the need to work at community level with effective screening and signposting on to relevant services.Essential Information
This course aims to train delegates to be an initial point of contact in taking immediate action to deal with a casualty at work.
Candidates will be provided with the knowledge and skills required to preserve a life until more qualified personnel arrive to take over. If however, you are taking a lead in first aid in your workplace the three day First Aid at Work course may be more appropriate for you.

Part webinar, part workshop, this session will increase practitioner’s knowledge around County Lines, looking at the issue from a systemic and practice perspective. This is an area of emerging practice on a national level and this session is designed to equip practitioners with a good all round basic awareness of County Lines.
Participants will be supported to work in groups using an ecolgical model to explore: the national and local picture; law and policy; understanding who is vulnerable with particular reference to cuckooing, the impact on peoples lives; effective multi agency working, emerging local protocols and an exploration of good practice in HASC.
This course is suitable for staff and carers working with people with learning disabilities who want to develop skills in using makaton. This is the professional route.

Makaton is a language programme involving speech, manual signs and graphic symbols developed to help people with communication difficulties, especially people with learning disabilities.
By the end of this 2 day workshop participants will have improved and developed their skills using makaton signs and symbols from stages 1-4 and additional stage.
This half day workshop will introduce you to the practical element of the early help process.
You will be taken through the process of referrals to the Front Door for Families, Early Help assessments, Team Around the Family meetings and planning for positive change.
There will be the opportunity to participate in small group activities, whole group discussions and practical activities to develop your confidence in working with families who need some extra help.

This course looks at the main principles of adult safeguarding in line with the Care Act and the Making Safeguarding Personal approach. It explores practice issues regarding abuse or neglect to service users, including the responsibilities of staff in preventing and reporting. This course is aimed at frontline staff who support adults.

This half-day course is for all new staff who have recently joined Brighton & Hove City Council.
The course aims are to welcome new staff to the council, provide an overview of the visions and priorities of the council and give an opportunity to learn about the organisational and political structure.
New staff will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of the chief executive or a executive director.
The course will briefly cover areas such as learning and development opportunities, staff travel, health, safety and wellbeing, and equalities and diversity. It is an effective starting point for new staff to increase their knowledge of the city council and network with other new staff.
